¨
Recruitment postings. Many State
jobs are open to the public at all times, and others are open promotionally to
permanent classified State employees at all times. These jobs are posted to alert job seekers about the Civil
Service scores that they will need in advance to be eligible for vacancies when
they occur. They have no application
deadline.
If
you are interested in one of these jobs, follow the directions to get a score
from Civil Service, so that you don't miss an opportunity when State agencies
post their vacancies to Job Search.
¨
Currently vacant positions. These
vacancies are being filled in a few different ways, and it's important to read
the Contact Instructions and the Special Notes carefully, and follow
their directions. Failure to read all instructions in a posting may cause you
to be ineligible for the position!
Ø
Jobs open only
by announcement. These jobs have few vacancies, so applicants
can only get scores when they are posted by Civil Service. If one of these jobs requires a written
test, you MUST follow the instructions in the posting for reporting to a test
center. Pay special attention to the
last test date for those vacancies! We
do not schedule any written exams except in the case of disabled candidates who
need testing accommodations.
Ø
Jobs open to the public at all times. You will
generally need a score from Civil Service for these jobs before you apply to the State agency with the vacancy. In most cases, the State employers who post
vacancies to Job Search will consider ONLY the people who respond to their
postings as directed. Also, even if you
have a score for a certain job, you are not likely to be asked to interview for
a posted vacancy if you do not apply to the agency in response to their
posting.
Ø
Jobs that require no Civil Service score. A number of
State jobs can be filled directly by the State agency with the vacancy,
especially in the medical field. The
posting will often note that "No Civil Service score is needed". If you are uncertain, see the Contact
Instructions for how to get in touch with the hiring agency to find out for
sure.
Ø
Jobs in State agencies which are in a new Civil
Service program that allows agencies to create their own lists of qualified
applicants. These postings are called DIRECT HIRE
postings. You can identify them by the
phrase "Direct Hire", which will
appear in the Contact Instructions and/or the Special Notes in the Job Search
posting. Applicants go directly to the
hiring agency.
PLEASE NOTE that many jobs at the Dept. of Revenue require BOTH a
written test AND a rated score. If you have a rating for the job, but do NOT
have a score for the written test, you will NOT be eligible for these
positions. Read the Contact
Instructions and Special Notes carefully.
Ø
Two types of
vacancies are open to the public. If the vacancy type is
"Probational/Original", this is a position that will become permanent
after the probational period has passed (varies from six months to two years). If the vacancy type is
"Temporary", the job will last up to 36 months, but may terminate
before then. These types of positions
never become permanent.
¨
Promotions for permanent State employees also appear on Job Search. They are not open to the general public. The type of vacancy will tell you this. Promotions may be open only to employees of
a specific State agency (Promotion-Department/Agency-wide), to all permanent
classified State employees (Promotion-All Classified Permanent Employees), or
both. The Contact Instructions or the
Special Notes in these postings will often list the State agency for which the
promotion is announced.
